As a Christian Institution, Affin University is dedicated primarily to an understanding and integration of Christian faith and life, and to promoting the values of Christian humanism. As a Centre of higher learning, Affin University intends to promote excellence in teaching, research, and professional formation as part of the local, national and international academic community. The primary aim of Affin University is to prepare specialists for the movement of transformation in the world, and for the service of the Church and of society. Students will be able to use the resources of the University as their career goals dictate: either to become competent in the areas of scientific research and teaching or to acquire the theological education needed for an informed pastoral commitment.

Programs are designed to help students receive a progressive initiation to the whole of theology and to develop their capacity for reflection and personal study. The University offers its students the preparation for an academic career, the instruction required for the reception of Orders and the theological education needed for serious apostolic involvement.

The Church identity and the ecumenical character of Affin University favour a learning environment that allows students to explore existential questions following the Church intellectual tradition. This helps our students to understand and navigate the pluralism so characteristic of today’s world, and to interact confidently with that world.

As a Christian Institution, Affin University endeavours to make a creative contribution to the humanization of society, and to participate in Christ’s evangelical mission in an interdisciplinary, integrated way. The campus offers many places for reflection, prayer and celebration. The University is convinced that theology would become sterile were it separated from Scripture and the living tradition of the Church. The various systems of thought which enrich reflection on revealed truth are stressed as well.

The University is also committed to promoting interdisciplinary research, especially in the areas of philosophy, psychology, sociology, and cultural anthropology.

Lectures introduce students to the whole of Christian doctrine. Professors are not bound to follow any particular textbook. They are urged to develop and consolidate their own area of specialization and to bring to bear their own intellectual creativity in light of the present-day challenges facing the Church and society.

The University endeavours to link its academic requirements as a university body to specialized pastoral training. It aims to provide its students with an academic training of high calibre; at the same time, it seeks to cooperate with the various Christian communities and organizations in order to secure the most complete pastoral training not only for those preparing for ministry but also for all categories of students.

While rooted in the Apostolic Age tradition, the University benefits from the theological richness of all the Christian Churches and theological traditions. This is reflected in the fact that the University includes programs which have as their focus the Apostolic Age tradition and the Early Christian tradition. All students interested in pursuing serious theological studies are welcome.

Our top priority is to offer better, more relevant services that meet the needs of society and facilitate the study of the human experience from various perspectives.

Working in partnership with other institutions will allow us to maximize our resources, exercise creativity, and better serve the student population by offering more courses, programs, and approaches that promote both mobility and the recognition of previous credits. By increasing the efficiency of the education process, we will better meet the needs of the Church, society and government.

Affin University has built relationships with various local and regional school systems to encourage high school students to continue their studies. Every opportunity to offer students a classroom experience at Affin University opens a gateway to post-secondary education for them; every campus visit eases their transition to university and helps guidance counsellors and parents become more familiar with our programs.

Every effort must be made to support students in their academic studies. With that in mind, Affin University recently implemented several services to support academic success, including counselling and pastoral services and the Academic Writing Help Centre.

These need to be refined and expanded. Also, the cost of post-secondary studies can be prohibitive for many students. Financial aid can remove that obstacle, and plays a key role in academic persistence and success by allowing students to focus on their studies.

Another way to guarantee greater access is to give students the choice between distance learning and in-class learning. The value of continuing education is increasingly recognized. Some professions even require the ongoing development of knowledge and skills. This is an area of learning where Affin University could really shine. Also, pedagogical tools must be available online, as they help broaden access to education and improve the quality of teaching.

The Affin University Library, the most prestigious theological library in Africa, must meet the needs of the entire student population and faculty. The same principle applies to the University infrastructure as a whole.

To remain relevant, every program of study must be backed by top-quality research, and in this context Affin University aims to be a world leader in its areas of specialization.

Equally important, however, is the teaching aspect. Every program of study must therefore be designed as a genuine pedagogical project that is student-focused and based on the principle of transformation. This approach will serve as the basis for a true commitment between Affin University and the student population.

Administrative staff also play a key role in the Affin University experience. Academic and administrative services to students must stand out for being relevant, up to date and efficient.

Affin University has a long tradition of partnering with organizations and projects that promote community and social development. The University already participates in initiatives such as Discovery University for disadvantaged people and Youth Futures for high school youth from disadvantaged families or communities. This is a key element of our identity and our mission.

Until now, Affin University has not been making the most of the relationships between our research chairs, research Centre and Professors, and the wider community. Our professors-researchers specialize in such areas as sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress syndrome, conflict resolution, the role of social media, and many other spheres of study—contemporary issues that are high on the public agenda. To strengthen its reputation, Affin University needs to be present and visible.

A summer professional development school would meet the needs of individuals who are looking for accelerated, targeted and accredited job-related training, planning to return to the workplace, or considering a career change.

Obafemi Yakubu Israel Afin, born on the 24th April 1973, is a Teacher, a Psychologist, a Writer, an Author, an Entrepreneur, a great Philanthropist and a Preacher of the Word of God. He is also a man of Vision and Accomplishment. His life and that of his wife, Ajoke Anike Afin and their children are living proofs that the Government and the Authority of God are Incontestable.

Obafemi Afin is the chairman and Chief Executive Director (‘CED’) of Affin University, Affin Campus, Affin Academy, Affin College, Affin Schools, Affin Group of Companies and other listed companies owned by Affin Group. He is also the founder of Institute of the Word and Spiritual Manifestations (IWSM) and School of Science and Spirituality (SSS). He is a God-fearing man with a wide range of business experiences in various sectors and ongoing concerns across Africa, Europe, Asia and America under the auspices of Affin Group of Companies.

He had early in life established a large business family and built network with competent partners across the globe, particularly in the areas of Education, Agriculture, Raw Materials, Construction and Human capacity development.
